Privacy, PIPEDA and Access Requests

CGI supplies electronic information to the Canadian property and casualty insurance industry by virtue of an agreement with each insurer that establishes certain parameters around the collection, transfer and use of information by and between CGI and the aforementioned insurance industry.

As part of these service offerings, CGI maintains databases of automobile and property policy and claims information. These databases assist the insurance industry in assessing risks, investigating and settling claims, and detecting and preventing fraud.

CGI is committed to ensuring ongoing compliance with Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, S.C. 2000, c. 5 (“PIPEDA”). As part of this commitment, CGI works closely with all its clients in the Canadian property and casualty insurance industry, and various stakeholders, including the Insurance Bureau of Canada, to ensure we have a consistent interpretation of PIPEDA’s requirements. Before CGI collects any data containing personal information from its clients, our clients are contractually obliged to ensure that any such data is provided to CGI with the required consents of consumers in relation to personal information. CGI in turn uses and stores the data it receives from its clients in accordance with this framework.

Consumers who wish to purchase automobile or property insurance in Canada cannot do so without providing their consent to the collection, use, disclosure and exchange of their personal information to third parties, as required. This consent forms part of the application form for the purchase of insurance in Canada. Accordingly, when insurance is obtained from an insurer, consumers are required to consent to the various uses with which CGI, a third party, makes of the personal information.

Should you need to discuss this policy further please contact the CGI Help Desk using the contact information under the “How Can We Help You section” on this page.

A request for access to your personal information may be made in writing stating sufficient details of the personal information you are requesting to: Legal Department (Privacy Officer) at CGI Inc. 1350 Rene-Levesque Blvd. West, Montreal, QC H3G 1T4. To ensure we disclose information to you only, with your request please include photocopies (front and back) of two (2) pieces of government issued photo identification so that we may verify your identity.
